Meet Team Jamie & Gus

My dream is to live independently and swim competitively. With Gus by my side, I now have the opportunity to do both”
- Jamie, Assistance Dogs Australia client

Living with Cerebral Palsy and profound deafness, Jamie once relied on others for almost everything. Then she was paired with Assistance Dog Gus.

From helping her in and out of her wheelchair, to retrieving hard-to-reach items, and keeping her safe outside the house, Gus does so much more than assist; he gives Jamie freedom, confidence, and unconditional love.

Today, she lives independently and is training to be a Paralympian.

But so many people like Jamie are still waiting.

Training the next hero pups

It takes over $60,000 and two years to train an Assistance Dog. Without generous supporters like you, many people with disability miss out.

From 8 weeks old, each puppy begins training with our expert trainers and volunteers, building the skills, confidence, and socialisation needed to change a life.

A Training Starter Pack – with a lead, collar, blanket, toy and learner jacket – gives every pup the best start.

By 14 months, they move into Advanced Training, mastering cues tailored to their future human partner.

At graduation, each dog is carefully matched with someone on the waitlist, empowering them to live a more independent, confident and connected life.

From playful puppy to hero Assistance Dog, your donation makes every step possible.

Assistance Dogs Australia's impact

Assistance Dogs Australia (ADA) is dedicated to helping people with disability experience meaningful change in their daily lives, with a loyal companion by their side.

We breed, train, and place internationally-accredited Assistance Dogs at no cost to people with physical disability, autism or PTSD.

200+ Assistance Dogs are currently working in the community across Australia.

To meet the huge demand for Assistance Dogs, ADA urgently needs to train DOUBLE the number of promising puppies, ready for their life-changing futures. But we can't do it alone.

Together, we can give Australians with disabilities greater independence, wellbeing and connection.
